Application process:
- Student applies directly through normal procedures and informs OGS of intention to apply for a CSC scholarship.
- Only students applying to enter doctoral programs are eligible for CSC scholarships.
- Supporting materials are submitted as required.
- If recommended for admission, Graduate Studies sends an offer letter to the student to be used in the CSC application.
- After CSC decisions have been made in early May, CSC sends the names of the scholarship recipients to Graduate Studies.
- Students forward a copy of their award letter from CSC to Graduate Studies.
- Admission is completed and immigration documents are sent to student.
- Students who apply for CSC funding but do not receive the scholarship remain in “Pending Funding” status. This means that a department has recommended the student for admission, but that Graduate Studies does not have the financial documentation needed to issue an I-20.
Funding:
- UNL provides tuition remission up to 24 credit hours per year.
- The student must pay fees and the entire cost of the student health insurance premium.
- The CSC scholarship provides a stipend of at least $1000/month for the duration of the student’s program.
- Departments must provide a partial assistantship (.25 FTE or 10 hrs/wk) providing a minimum annual stipend of $5000. (The actual stipend amount may vary and exceed the minimum.) Departments will be responsible for deciding if the student will be appointed during summer.
- CSC expects the student to complete the program in 4 years.
