VEF and VIED
Application Administrators:
- Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF)
- Vietnam International Educational Development in the Ministry of Education and Training (VIED/MOET) (Vietnamese only)
- UNL Graduate Studies
Application process:
- Students are selected by VEF or VIED to receive scholarships, and UNL Graduate Studies is provided with a list of recipients. UNL is also included on a list of targeted US institutions provided to students.
- All students apply for doctoral programs.
- The application fee is waived and the student applies online in the normal procedure.
- If the student is recommended for admission, the Department must confirm that an assistantship will be provided as long as the student has made satisfactory progress in the first 2 years of the program. The assistantship is for years 3‐5, and must meet departmental standards.
- If the student is recommended for admission, Graduate Studies sends an admission offer letter that the student submits to VEF/VIED. Student then sends a copy of the scholarship award letter to Graduate Studies, after which the admission is completed.
- UNL provides the immigration documents.
Funding:
- VEF or VIED provides student with $27,000/year for the first 2 years of study. This funding pays student fees and health insurance as well as a living stipend.
- UNL tuition waiver covers up to 18 credit hours per year for the first 2 years.
- After 2 years, the student receives a graduate assistantship from the department that provides tuition remission and a standard stipend for the remainder of the student’s program.
