Actuarial Science,
The actuarial science program prepares students seeking to become life, health, pensions, or property/casualty actuaries. The program has produced actuaries in North America and many other countries.
Description
The program is geared to students with a strong aptitude for mathematics as well as a solid mathematical preparation, including calculus and mathematical statistics. Many successful students, however, have had backgrounds in non-mathematical fields.
The degree requires a minimum of 30 hours without a thesis. At least nine hours must be in a minor area such as computer science, insurance, finance, statistics, or economics. Students are encouraged to take as many classes as possible in finance and insurance and to join the Actuarial Science Club. The Club provides many benefits to current students including providing them with a better understanding of the actuarial profession by hosting insurance company actuaries through their on-campus visits; by connecting current students with actuarial science alumni; by assisting students in preparing for professional examinations; and fostering close relationships among students in the common pursuit of a career in actuarial science.
